The Hollywood Reporter reported that The Return of Jezebel James has been cut back from 13 episodes to only 7.
“We have always planned to launch ’The Return of Jezebel James’ in midseason, and seven episodes are all we need to allow us to program the series through the current broadcast season,” Fox said Friday. “We are big fans of Amy Sherman-Palladino, Dan Palladino and the extremely talented cast and are looking forward to airing the show.” …
Fox’s other midseason comedy series, “Unhitched,” has a six-episode order.
Indeed, if Fox cancels the show, it’ll probably do so after less than 7 episodes. And if it doesn’t, Jezebel James will go on for a second season.
(And note that whether or not the show makes it has little to do with how good it is. See the TV Addict’s view, which is unfortunately right-on.)
The bad thing about this cut-back is that if the show gets canceled, we’ll have only half as many episodes on DVD.

On the other hand, Variety reports that Amy Sherman-Palladino will direct The Late Bloomer’s Revolution, a film adaptation of Amy Cohen’s book, starring Sarah Jessica Parker of Sex and the City fame. (And already the conspiracy theorists are speculating a connection.)
HBO Films acquired screen rights to Cohen’s memoir, and Sherman-Palladino will adapt the novel, about a single woman who, after the death of her mother, develops a bond with her father as they both try to get on with their lives in the dating world…
“Character stuff is what I do best, and there is an interesting lady at the center of this who explores a relationship with her father, who’d always been the silent guy in the corner watching TV when her mom was around,” Sherman-Palladino said. “The humor is key here, and Sarah Jessica is a great comedienne.”
Since Amy is both writing and directing (or at least that’s how it sounds), this is sure to be a must-see film.
